What should a real estate QR code link to?
Link it to the page a buyer most wants: the listing, with photos and price. A page you control is the safest choice, because a portal page can change or come down when the listing sells. With a dynamic code the choice is not permanent: you change the link when the listing changes.
A person who scans a sign wants three things: the price, the photos, and a way to reach you. Send them to the one page that has all three and loads fast on a phone.
The options
- Your own listing page. You control it. It stays up after the sale if you want it to, and it has your contact details.
- The MLS or brokerage page. Accurate and current while the listing is active. It can change or come down when the listing closes, and you do not decide when.
- Zillow or another portal. Buyers know these pages. But the page belongs to the portal: it decides what else is shown there, and what happens to the page after the sale.
- A 3D tour or a video. Good on an open-house flyer. Weak as the only link on a sign, if it has no price and no way to contact you.
- A contact or showing form. Good for a "coming soon" sign, before the listing is public.
Why your own page lasts longer
A sign can stay up after the listing changes: under contract, sold, or withdrawn. A link to a page you do not control can end at a page that says the home is off the market. A link to your own page goes where you send it.
Change the link as the listing moves
- Coming soon: a contact form.
- Active: the listing page.
- Under contract: your similar listings.
- Sold: your own page, so the sign still works for you.
Each change is one edit in your dashboard, and the sign stays as printed. On the free plan a code's link can be changed for its first 50 scans. After that, a change needs Pro ($10 a month or $100 a year).
Check the link on a phone
Every scan is on a phone. Open the link on yours before you print. If the page asks for a login or takes a long time to load, choose another page.
