Do Canva QR codes expire?

No, not unless you set an expiry date. Canva's help center says a Canva QR code without an expiry date never expires. Canva makes two kinds: a static code, whose link is fixed for good, and a dynamic code, whose destination you can change after printing. Only Canva Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit can set an expiry date on a dynamic code.

Everything here is from Canva's own help page on QR codes, read on 10 September 2026. The short version is reassuring: a code you made in Canva won't quietly time out. What matters is which of Canva's two QR tools made it, because they behave very differently once the code is printed.

Static or dynamic: which one did you make?

A static Canva QR code encodes your link directly. Canva's words: its "link can't be changed after creation." It never expires and never carries the Canva logo, but if the page it points to moves or dies, the only fix is a new code and a reprint. A dynamic Canva QR code points through Canva, so you can select it, choose Edit, change the URL and save, with no reprint. On the Free and Pro plans a dynamic code carries the Canva logo, and scan data (Canva calls it Insights) is only on Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit.

Canva is clear that you can't convert one kind into the other, in either direction. If you printed a static code and now need to change it, you have to make a new code.

When does a Canva QR code expire?

Only when someone sets an expiry date, and only Canva Business, Enterprise and Nonprofit can. Once that date passes, scanners are sent to a fallback URL if one was set, or to Canva's generic QR code error page if not. The date can be changed or cleared afterwards. A code with no expiry date set never expires.

What Canva's page doesn't say

Canva's help page doesn't say what happens to a dynamic code's redirect if you delete the design, delete the code, or close your Canva account. If your printed code needs to outlive your Canva account, ask Canva before you print. It also notes that by default only the person who created a dynamic code can edit its link, even if others can edit the design.

When a different tool is the better fit

For a code inside a design you are already making in Canva, Canva's tools are the easy choice. If you want scan counts without a Business plan, or a code that isn't tied to one design and one account's collaborators, a dedicated tool fits better. A TangoQR code is dynamic on every plan, has no expiry date, keeps redirecting if you cancel, and carries scan analytics from the free plan up. Download the SVG or PNG and place it in your Canva design like any other image.

Step by step

  1. Find out which kind you have

Paste the code into the QR code URL checker. If it shows your own link in full, it's a static code; a short link on another domain means it's dynamic.

  2. Check for an expiry date

In Canva, select the dynamic code and look for an expiry date in the left panel. No date means it doesn't expire.

  3. Keep the destination alive

A static code only stops working if the page it points to does, so don't move or delete that page.
